Overview
SEGMA is pleased to announce that the 2nd Manama Air Power Symposium (MAPS 2018) was successfully held on November 13, 2018 at the Sofitel Manama Hotel, Bahrain under the prestigious patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and supported by the Royal Bahrain Air Force and the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunication. MAPS 2018 is the official conference of Bahrain International Airshow 2018.
MAPS 2018 was attended by nearly 300 senior air force officers from 20 countries plus high level executives from the defense industry. The conference was opened by HH Major General Sheikh Abdullah bin Abdullah Al Khalifah, commander of the Royal Bahrain Air Force, who welcomed all the guests and laid out his vision for burden sharing between allied forces in the region. He also addressed all the challenges facing the region in combating terrorism and the Iranian threat. The guest keynote speaker Alfred Worden, the Apollo-15 astronaut, talked about the importance of space exploration and about the negative effects of the militarization of space.
Nine air power commanders took turns in addressing the crowd in three separate panels that addressed the theme of “Air Power Applied in Networked Coalition and Joint Environments.” They discused s the most pressing issues in air power in light of the most recent experiences and lessons learned in-theatre from operations.
